We have a collection of photographs from a variety of sources including Historic England Archive and John Illingworth a local collector of old postcards.
There are also copies of 2 paintings, one by well known local artist, Peter Brooke and the other by a local amateur, Peter Rigby.
The attached files contain a variety of documents relating to the churchyard including photos of memorials rescued from the walls of the church. These include Ann Walker's plaque and an article on the ownership of the pews which gives an insight into the wealthy of our area in the 19th century. There is also an article on the sale of land in Hipperholme and Lightcliffe during the period 1867 to 1890.
Ian Philp gave a talk to the Lightcliffe & District Local History Society in November 2018. The first part focused on the old church itself and is attached as St Matthew's Old Church. The second half of his talk was about some of the people associated with the church and further information is available on our People of Interest page.
